You can reach Barcelona from the Airport using several options:

  • Aerobús (Airport Shuttle Bus): It runs every 5-10 minutes and it stops at key points in the city, including Plaça Espanya and Plaça Universitat. Duration is around 30 minutes. This ticket is included in Barcelona Card + Aerobus.
  • Metro: You can take L9 Sud metro line from the airport to various stops in Barcelona. To reach the city center, transfer at either Collblanc (L5 Line) or Torrassa (L1 Line). Duration is around 50 minutes.
  • Bus: Line 46 or night buses N16, N17, and N18 (if arriving late) to reach Barcelona city center in around 50 minutes.
  • Train: you can catch a train from Terminal 2 to Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gràcia, or Clot-Aragó. Duration is around 25 minutes to Passeig de Gràcia.
  • Taxi: Taxis services are available at the airport. The trip takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Cost is around 30€.

  • Newsstands and Tobacconists (Estancos) located at major bus and tram stops, these kiosks sell tickets for buses, trams, and funiculars.
  • Travel Cards: Offer unlimited travel for a set period (2, 3 or 5 days). Prices range from about €18 for a 2-days pass to €41 for a 5-day pass. With travel card you have unlimited travel on metro, buses, trams, and trains within Zone 1 for the chosen duration.

Barcelona metro and buses opearting hours are the following.

Metro:

Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Friday: 5:00 AM to 2:00 AM
Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Sunday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM

Buses:

Monday to Friday: Typically from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with variations depending on the route. Saturday: Similar to weekdays, with some slight variations. On Sunday and Public Holidays frequency is reduced on some routes, but generally similar operating hours.

Night Buses (NitBus) operates approximately from 10:30 PM to 5:00 AM with a frequency of 20-30 minutes. Night buses cover major routes across the city and are identified by an “N” before the route number.

Children under the age of 4 travel for free on all public transportation (including buses, metro, trams, and local trains). Children aged 4 to 16 can obtain a  T-16 card that allows unlimited free travel within the entire Barcelona metropolitan area (Zone 1).This pass requires registration and proof of age​.

Public transport ticket allow you to travel across all of Zone 1 of Barcelona’s public transport system. This means you can use it for unlimited travel on the metro, buses (operated by TMB), trams, suburban trains (FGC and Rodalies de Catalunya), and the Montjuïc funicular within Zone 1, which includes most of the city of Barcelona and the main tourist attractions.
